While walking down the road
Where the spring hedges glowed
The blackbirds and the doves all were a flying.
I found a mat of blue.
That was laid down in sparkling dew
In 'Jackdaw wood' where old crows were a sighing
O the spring o the spring
O the magic that is spring
O the flowers! O the scent that is rising
O the promise of a year that is found in its good cheer
Fills a body with the life that’s enterprising.
The air was full of dreams.
Spots: lit by sparkling, sunny, beams.
That recorded crooked lanes and Tolkien rhymes.
Door mice, squirrel, and hare
Shared fun with coney rabbits in their lairs
As intrigue dressed the woods and new timelines.
O the spring o the spring
O the magic that is spring
O the flowers O the scents that are a rising
O the promise of a year that is found in spring’s good cheer
Fills a body with the life that is advising.

The Wombles live in burrows
I remembered that rhyme while walking in the Children Hills, during the week, when I nearly stepped on the rabbit that popped his head out of a burrow and then turned his white fluffy tail up to me and ran into the farmer’s field.
I looked down to see if he had a colony following him out. I never expected to nearly walk-on, or even get tripped-up by a rabbit.
As I continued up the path I kept an eye out: where had he gone? this guy was moving fast and THEN I saw another that might have been his twin or his sister or brother, or even cousin.
And then another; and then!! two squirrels ran up the bridle path and chased each other up a tree and when I stood under the tree, to see what they were doing two huge doves weighed down a slender branch until it nearly reached the ground and they just casually stepped off, 'casually stepped off' and when I thought not much more could occur a door mouse ran across my foot and scurried into the far ditch; and all that happened just down the road from 'Jackdaw Wood' that was showing off its carpet of bluebells…
Uncle Bulgaria Coburg was the leader of the wombles …
Later on the way back to my digs while considering my route I came across a table that held boxes of eggs; it had a shingle hanging over it, 1 pound 40 pence for half dozen: please put your money in the ñhonesty box’ Sure beats queuing for click and collect.
